Shark Boy and Lava Girl have about as much appeal as a dogfish and a melting Barbie doll.. [Chan's] acrobatic action sequences remain eye-catching as ever. You can't get this kind of full-on sensory-jolt anywhere else, not legally anyway.. Lee displays only glimmers of the cartoonish, gonzo sensibility that once made him seem like an interesting talent. In its place is strained seriousness and a butt-ugly digital palette of tan and sand.. It's terrible 3-D. I think the story is terrible as well....
